Thirty hours of work each week is
so much more than 20. Last week I managed it pretty well but this week is Going. Very. Badly.
I had this idea that I shouldn't work when I'm the only parent in the house; my kids are 6 and 8 but still, when they need attention, they need it; so this weekend I drafted a schedule for myself that would get my work hours in while not detracting from my parenting.
Plan V. Actual, Monday
Plan: 6:30 - 7:30am - Work while kids are asleep
Actual: 6:30 - 7:30am - Asleep
Plan: 7:30 - 9:30am - Make lunches for kids and husband, make breakfast for kids and self, get kids ready for camp, drop off at camp (note they are not at the same camp this week)
Actual: 7:30 - 10:00am - As above, except after dropping the kids off, I had to go back home, get Blake's glasses & bring them back to him at camp
Plan: 9:30 - 12:45am - Work while both kids are at camp
Actual: 10:00 - 11:30 - Work, but accidentally retrieve Sasha 1 hour early. She is in Spanish camp and I don't speak Spanish and no one bothered to tell me IN ENGLISH that I was an hour early.
Plan: 1:30 - 3:00pm - Conference call, unavoidable, while Sasha draws (!)
Actual: 12:30 - 3:00pm - Work and then conference call while Sasha watches Zoboomafoo and makes lions and other creatures out of Bendaroos. (These were totally cool, by the way.)
Plan: 3:00 - 10:00pm - Play with Sasha, retrieve Blake from camp, play with both of them, cook dinner, eat dinner, clean up from dinner, put kids to bed, have conversation with husband, put self to bed
Actual: 3:00 - 10:00pm - As above, except that my husband invited his dad over for dinner, since his mom was out of town; and somewhere in there I wrote a blog post; and?
Actual: 10:00pm - midnight: Work.
Tuesday and Wednesday have gone WORSE, if you can believe it, since I forgot to budget for things like unavoidable errands and laundry. I have to make up 3 1/2 hours somewhere!
And I'm wasting valuable minutes blogging!
