Smells

The neighbor who lives immediately behind me commented that she missed seeing my laundry blowing in the wind. At first I thought she was being facetious -- her back windows look right on my clothesline -- but then we talked for awhile about the clothes-drying habits of our grandmothers. Of course ever since, I've felt guilty for my reliance on the electric dryer. I mean, if anyone should dry their clothes on a line, it's desert-dwellers.

So, so. Yesterday I hung a load of laundry in the sunshine, leaving it all day -- it is only 38 degrees -- and now our clothes smell like wood smoke.

I like it, actually.
