The neighbor who lives immediately behind me commented that she missed seeing my laundry blowing in the wind. At first I thought she was being facetious -- her back windows look right on my clothesline -- but then we talked for awhile about the clothes-drying habits of our grandmothers. Of course ever since, I've felt guilty for my reliance on the electric dryer. I mean, if anyone should dry their clothes on a line, it's desert-dwellers.
So, so. Yesterday I hung a load of laundry in the sunshine, leaving it all day -- it is only 38 degrees -- and now our clothes smell like wood smoke.
I like it, actually.

Jennifer, so does mine. It can also smell like snow if you forget it overnight on the line. Mostly in the winter the clothes freeze solid on me and I bring them in and finish drying them beside the wood furnace. The whole basement smells wonderful.
